Neha uses her voice to fulfil her desire of completing her studies.
Neha has been taking care of household chores as well as supporting her family with tobacco farming. She was involved by her father to support in taking care of the fields. Neha shared, “Cultivating tobacco is lot of hard work, and it needs special care, plucking out weeds and other farming work.”
Due to all these responsibilities Neha has not been able to attend school, but she had a deep desire to become a regular student again and complete her studies.
Neha has been an active Sukanaya (Girls) Club member, she has attended all the three bi monthly meetings and life skill workshop despite resistance from her father. She attends these meetings with lot of enthusiasm and is curious to learn more.
Encouraged by the session on shared household responsibilities and equal distribution of work amongst family members she discussed the same with her parents and brother.
She expressed her strong desire to go to school regularly and spend more time studying as she is in 10th grade and this is a crucial year.
Though her father initially didn’t agree but then off loaded the field responsibility from her. Now her brother supports her father in the field and her sister in law and mother supports her with the household chores. This gives Neha time to study and attend school regularly.
“Division of household work gives me the time to study. Domestic work is not only responsibility of girls and women; it is the responsibility of all. “
