Elisabeth discovers her purpose

In the quiet town of Adomfe, Ghana, Elisabeth Nuama lived a life of uncertainty, her ambitions silenced by the weight of poverty. Like so many others in rural Ghana, she was excluded from traditional economic systems and lived without basic services and opportunities to thrive. Elisabeth laments, “I had no skills and was unemployed.” As a mother, she worried about how to keep her children fed and did not have the means to send them to school.

That all changed when The Hunger Project (THP) opened a regional epicentre in her village.
With access to vocational training, and programs like financial literacy, local savings groups, and business management, Elisabeth seized newfound opportunities with unfettered determination.

“When the programs in the epicentre started, I took the chance to be trained in a variety of crafts. I acquired vocational skills such as soap making, baking, batik tie and dye and more.”

Elisabeth is enthusiastic about her personal growth since engaging with THP Ghana. Her eagerness to learn has made her a fixture at the epicentre. She expresses, “I am someone who is always ready to learn any vocation because I believe that’s my calling.” Igniting a passion to uplift others, she even trains and mentors community members in her region and beyond.

Today, Elisabeth’s endeavours support her family and enable her children to aspire for higher education. She boasts, “three of them have completed senior high school and are waiting to be admitted at the tertiary level.”

Through THP, Elisabeth didn’t merely find employment; she pulled herself out of poverty and discovered her life’s purpose.

The Hunger Project’s goal is to end world hunger. Our approach is different – we see people living in hunger as the solution, not the problem.
