The Hunger Project’s goal is to end world hunger. Our approach is different – we see people living in hunger as the solution, not the problem. We shift the mindsets of women and men so…
Meet Barton, a shining example of transformation and entrepreneurship in Dzungu Village, Malawi.
Laston’s journey has become a source of inspiration for many in his village. Through his active participation in the Vision, Commitment, and Action (VCA) workshops, Laston has emerged as a shining example of transformation and entrepreneurship.
Before the epicentre, Laston was already an entrepreneur, running a small village shop. However, the income he earned was not enough to meet his household’s basic needs. He struggled to support his family and could not realise his dream of living in a better home.
At the time, Laston’s shop was located in a remote area of the community, which limited his sales. When THP-Malawi introduced the Epicentre Strategy in his village, he was among those eager to attend the VCA workshops. His active participation marked a turning point in his life.
Through the sessions, Laston developed a new mindset and began thinking more strategically. He realised that the main barrier to his business growth was its location. Acting on this insight, he relocated his shop to a more accessible area with higher foot traffic. The results were immediate, his profits increased significantly. With this new income, Laston was able to build a modern house and invest in livestock.
He firmly believes that embracing The Hunger Project’s five principles for ending hunger and poverty made all the difference in helping him reach where he is today.
