We’re proud to announce the launch of The Hunger Project Australia’s Youth Board. We invited the Chair of the Youth Board, Jo Akehurst, to share why she’s excited to take on this role, and why she invites other young people to join her.

Jo Akehurst – “It’s about empowerment”

To me, The Hunger Project Australia (THPA) has an incredible goal; to end hunger by 2030. This is no small task with 820 million people living in hunger and I truly believe it can be done.

THPA is not about handouts and quick fixes, they are about ending hunger systemically through changing the mindsets of individuals to elevate themselves from poverty. It’s about empowerment. This is the part I love about it.

The process of being empowered, gaining confidence and realising your self worth is not something that only applies to an individual determined to alleviate themselves & other from poverty, it applies to everyone, of any country, of any gender. It is non-discriminatory. The incredible thing about this organisation is that they don’t see the people living in hunger as the problem, they see them as the solution.

THPA’s National Youth Board is a group of young individuals working as a collective to achieve the goals of THPA; helping to empower, educate and alleviate individuals from poverty in communities across Africa, India and Bangladesh.

The youth board will work to specifically drive brand awareness and engagement in younger investor target markets through campaigns, specific events & the use of social media. With the overall objective to increase fundraising amounts within this target market.

This is an incredible opportunity for you to be directly involved in driving the strategy and direction of fundraising through the engagement of millennial investors. You can be part of something stimulating whilst also being so meaningful and providing genuine value add to people. A truly unique experience that I believe a very few number of young professionals would have the opportunity to be exposed to and if I was you, I’d get in fast as you won’t regret it!
