Janette graduated with a degree in Geology but soon made the somewhat unexpected move to the food industry, studying Food Science and, later, Human Nutrition. After many years in leadership roles in both the private and public sector assisting food companies, here and in the US, Janette now leads her own consulting business providing technical solutions to enable food businesses locally, nationally and internationally to develop and commercialise their products. She was made a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology in 2015, is a member of the Australian Institute of Directors and has been sessional lecturer assisting with the Product Development Course in the School of Food Science and Nutrition at the University of Queensland since 2002. Her engagement with The Hunger Project Australia is only recent but seemed a perfect fit for someone looking for more challenges and where food security and women in leadership come together. She has been so inspired after meeting previous “trippers” and hearing their stories that she plans to apply to join one of the upcoming trips next year.
